Every Bulgarian company is public. This guide shows you how to find one for free, read the extract field by field, and spot the entries that should stop a deal, whether you are checking a supplier, a partner, or your own newly registered EOOD.

Step by step
Step 1
Open the Registry Agency portal
Bulgaria's Commercial Register (Търговски регистър) is run by the Registry Agency at portal.registryagency.bg. Public search is free and needs no account. The interface has an English toggle, but company records themselves are stored in Bulgarian.
Step 2
Search by EIK, company name, or person
The fastest lookup is by EIK (the 9-digit unified identification code). Name search works too, but Bulgarian companies are registered in Cyrillic, so a Latin-script name may return nothing. You can also search by the personal identifier of a director or shareholder to find every entity they are attached to.
Step 3
Open the company file
A result opens the company's electronic file, split into fields (полета). Each field holds a current value plus its history, so you can see every past name, address, manager, and capital change with the date it was entered.

Read the key fields
Field 1 is the company name, field 2 the legal form (EOOD, OOD, AD), field 3 the registered seat and correspondence address, field 5 the object of activity, field 12 the managers and their representation powers, field 17 the capital, and fields 18-19 the shareholders and their shares.

Check the filings tab
The 'incoming documents' list shows every application ever lodged, including annual financial statements (ГФО). If a company has not filed accounts for the last completed year, that is visible here and is a common red flag in supplier due diligence.

Order an official extract if you need proof
The free screen view is informational. Banks, notaries, and foreign authorities want an official extract (удостоверение за актуално състояние), which is issued electronically for a small state fee and can be apostilled for use abroad.
What each field means
The register is in Bulgarian. These are the entries that actually matter when you read an extract.
EIK / ЕИК
Unified identification code
The 9-digit company number. It is also the VAT number once registered, prefixed with BG.
Правна форма
Legal form
EOOD = single-owner LLC, OOD = multi-owner LLC, AD = joint-stock company, ET = sole trader.
Седалище
Registered seat
The legal address. Must be a real Bulgarian address that can receive official post.

Object of activity
The declared business purpose. Broad wording is normal and does not limit what the company can invoice.

Manager (director)
The person who can legally bind the company. Check whether managers act jointly or severally.

Share capital
Minimum BGN 2 for an EOOD or OOD. Says nothing about the company's actual financial strength.

Shareholders
Owners and their share of the capital. Nominee arrangements are not recognised, so this is the real owner of record.
ГФО
Annual financial statement
Filed once a year. Missing filings mean the company is either dormant, late, or badly administered.

Liquidation / insolvency
Any entry here means the company is winding down or in insolvency proceedings. Stop and take advice.
Red flags in a Bulgarian extract
- No annual financial statement for the last completed year. Filing is mandatory. A gap usually means the company is dormant or poorly administered.
- Frequent changes of manager or seat. Three addresses in two years is a pattern, not an accident.
- An entry in the liquidation or insolvency fields. Contracts signed with a company in insolvency can be unwound.
- The signatory is not the registered manager. Only a listed manager, or someone with a notarised power of attorney, can bind the company.
- Capital far below the size of the deal. BGN 2 capital is legal and normal, but it also caps what you can realistically recover.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Bulgarian Commercial Register free to search?
Yes. Public search and viewing of a company file is free at the Registry Agency portal. You only pay a small state fee if you need an official certified extract.
What is an EIK number?
The EIK (ЕИК) is Bulgaria's 9-digit unified identification code, issued when a company is entered in the Commercial Register. It functions as the company number, tax number, and, after VAT registration, the VAT number with a BG prefix.
Are Bulgarian company owners public?
Yes. Shareholders of an OOD or EOOD are listed in the public register, and beneficial owners are separately declared in the UBO register. Bulgaria does not recognise nominee shareholding for register purposes.
Can I search the register in English?
The interface has an English mode, but the underlying records are in Bulgarian and companies are registered in Cyrillic. Searching by EIK avoids transliteration problems entirely.
How do I prove my Bulgarian company exists to a foreign bank?
Order an official certificate of good standing (удостоверение за актуално състояние) from the Registry Agency, then have it translated and apostilled. Most foreign banks accept an apostilled extract no older than three months.
